Bethenny Frankel is known for the Skinny Girl Margarita, she has even trade marked the recipe. That is the reason I ran out and bought her book,
Naturally Thin, as soon as it came out. Not because I feel the need for another diet book or because I am a BRAVO TV junkie, but because this diet book features the Skinny Girl Margarita. I know how very un-cool I am for buying a book based on it’s alcoholic beverage recipe, might I take a moment to remind the world of all my long, hard, tequila filled, waist-widening years at On The Border. As a bartender there, I watered down the sweet and sour concentrate and read the ingredients label every single day, like a nut job. I happen to know, after all those years, that margaritas do in fact average a fatty-fat-fat 700 calories. That shit’s crazy.
And don’t go thinking your favorite Mexican restaurant is any different. Because it’s not, it might even be higher, depending on the restaurants mix, bartender, and recipe.
Frankel’s recipe is simple, inexpensive, and can be requested at most restaurants if you know what to ask for in way of ingredients.
* 2 oz of Clear Premium Tequila (count 1, 2 while you pour, no need for measuring)
* Tiny splash of Orange Liquor ( Mighy Blonde happens to leave this one out for simplicity sake)
* Juice of 4 Fresh Lime Wedges ( I like to mix up lemons & limes)
• Splash of Grand Marnier or BOLS Triple Sec
She tops this mixture off with equal parts soda water. This cuts way back on calories, so you are basically getting clear liquor and soda water. I make the same one for my husband with an indulgent and large splash of lemonade.
As for the book, Naturally Thin, I skimmed it, disappointedly. It is great pointers for the average twenty-something, looking to go out often and diet by eating less. As for me, I will stick to my mostly vegetable life style…. supplemented by plenty of wine and of course Skinny Girl Margaritas.
